What ETS states TOEFL ITP is
TOEFL ITP is administered by institutions — not booked individually by a test-taker the way TOEFL iBT is. ETS lists its recommended uses as:
- Placement in intensive English-language programs
- Progress monitoring within an English-language program
- Exiting an English-language program by demonstrating proficiency
- Skill-building and preparation ahead of the TOEFL iBT test
- Admission to some short-term programs and degree pathways
- Contributing documentation for some scholarship programs

If you booked your own test date through an ETS account for university admissions, immigration, or a similar individual purpose, you are almost certainly taking the TOEFL iBT. If your school, employer, or language program assigned you a test for placement or to exit a program, it may be TOEFL ITP — ask the program directly, since ITP reports on ETS's own Level 1/Level 2 scale rather than the iBT's 1–6 scale (ETS: TOEFL ITP scoring, read August 6, 2026), so the two scores are not directly comparable.
