These are Reach120 practice sentences written to the 2026 task format. None is a real TOEFL test item, and the easy/medium/hard tiers are our own practice settings rather than ETS levels.
What the task asks for
You hear one sentence and repeat it back. Nothing is on the screen while it plays, so the task measures how much of a sentence you can hold and reproduce accurately — not how much you understood in general.
What ETS states
Per the specification’s item-type notes, all Speaking tasks are AI-scored constructed responses.
Build a Sentence is machine-scored rather than AI-scored, so the two labels are not a Speaking-only distinction. This says nothing about how Reach120 scores your practice.

How to rehearse a set
- 1Start in the tier below the one that feels comfortable. Accuracy first, length second.
- 2Read the sentence once, cover it, and say the whole thing before checking. Stopping halfway trains stopping halfway.
- 3Repeat the structure, not just the words — a two-clause sentence survives in memory as one shape, not as nine separate items.
- 4When a tier stops costing you words, move up. When it costs you the ending, slow the whole sentence down rather than the last part.

- Is the sentence shown on screen during the real task?
- No. It is delivered as audio, which is why holding it in memory is the skill the task measures. The transcripts on this page are for rehearsal; the Reach120 drill works the same way as the test and shows the transcript with your score afterwards.
- Are these real TOEFL sentences?
- No. They are Reach120 practice sentences written to the 2026 Listen and Repeat format. ETS does not publish its live item bank.
- What are the easy, medium and hard tiers?
- Reach120 practice settings, not ETS levels. They differ mainly in sentence length and clause structure — the word count printed beside each sentence is computed from the sentence itself.
- Do I need an account to use this page?
- No. Every sentence and transcript here is readable with no account and no email address. Getting a recording scored uses the free daily Listen and Repeat allowance once you are signed in.
