What is in it
- The whole 2026 Writing section: 10 Build a Sentence items, one Write an Email task and one Write for an Academic Discussion task.
- One academic Reading passage with five questions.
- A full answer key — the built sentence and its grammar point for every Build a Sentence item, and the correct option with its explanation for every Reading question.
- The rubrics the two open responses are marked against, so a self-marked answer has something to be marked against.
What it does not cover
- Listening and Speaking. Both depend on audio, and a printed page cannot carry a recording — those sections run free in the app instead.
- Two of the three 2026 Reading task types. The pack carries the academic passage set; the other two are on the Reading practice page.
- A score. Nothing in the pack produces a band — marking your own writing against a rubric is a reading exercise, not a score.
Build a Sentence — 10 items with answers
Arrange the words into one grammatical sentence that answers the speaker. There is one accepted arrangement per item, which is why this is the only writing task on the 2026 test with a real answer key.

Conditional Sentence Structure. Conditional sentences have two parts: the "if" clause (condition) and the result clause. The verb tenses in each clause must match the type of condition: real present (zero), real future (first), hypothetical (second), or past hypothetical (third). Mixing tenses incorrectly changes or destroys the meaning.
Write an Email — the full prompt
An open response, scored on a 0–5 rubric. There is no answer key, and inventing one would be inventing a fact about the test — what the pack publishes instead is the complete prompt with its own requirement list, which is the part most sites paraphrase away.

Social Media Influence
Social media influencers have become powerful voices in marketing and public opinion. While some view influencers as authentic voices connecting with audiences in new ways, others criticize influencer culture for promoting materialism, unrealistic lifestyles, and superficial values. The impact on young people is particularly debated.
Do social media influencers have a positive or negative impact on society? Share your perspective.
Student 1 — supporting
Social media influencers can have a positive impact when they use their platforms responsibly. Many influencers raise awareness about important issues like mental health, environmental protection, and social justice. They can inspire young people to pursue their passions.
Student 2 — opposing
I believe influencer culture is largely negative for society. Many influencers promote unrealistic beauty standards and excessive consumerism. Young followers often feel inadequate comparing their lives to the curated perfection they see online.
The classmates’ posts are part of the prompt, not a model answer. Your response is scored on a 0–5 rubric; the rubric is printed in the PDF.

The Mechanics of Cell Division — 315 words
Cell division is a fundamental biological process through which a single cell produces two or more daughter cells. This process underlies growth, development, and reproduction in all living organisms. There are two primary types of cell division: mitosis and meiosis, each serving distinct biological purposes.
Mitosis is the process by which somatic, or body, cells divide. During mitosis, the genetic material within a cell's nucleus is duplicated and then precisely distributed into two new nuclei. The result is two genetically identical daughter cells that contain the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell. Mitosis is essential for the repair of damaged tissues, the replacement of aging cells, and the growth of organisms. In humans, billions of cells undergo mitosis daily to maintain bodily functions.
Meiosis, in contrast, is a specialized form of cell division that produces reproductive cells, known as gametes—sperm and egg cells. Unlike mitosis, meiosis involves two successive rounds of cell division, yielding four daughter cells with only half the chromosome number of the parent cell. This reduction is critical because, during fertilization, the merging of two gametes restores the full chromosome count in the resulting zygote. Meiosis also introduces genetic variation through a process called crossing over, in which homologous chromosomes exchange segments of genetic material.
The regulation of cell division is critical to organismal health. A network of proteins called cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) controls the progression through different phases of the cell cycle. When these regulatory mechanisms fail, cells may divide uncontrollably, potentially leading to cancer. Understanding the precise mechanisms of cell cycle regulation has therefore become a major focus of biomedical research, offering potential insights into cancer treatment and prevention.
Both mitosis and meiosis proceed through well-defined stages. Collectively, these stages ensure that genetic material is accurately replicated and distributed, safeguarding the continuity of life across generations.
Question 1
What is the main idea of this passage?
- A. Cell division occurs only in reproductive organisms
- B. Mitosis and meiosis are two types of cell division that serve different biological purposes
- C. Cancer results from unregulated cell division
- D. Cyclins and CDKs are the most important proteins in the human body
Answer
B. Mitosis and meiosis are two types of cell division that serve different biological purposes
The passage discusses both mitosis and meiosis, comparing their roles, and then introduces cell cycle regulation. Option B best captures the overall focus of the passage.
Question 2
According to the passage, which statement correctly describes meiosis?
- A. It produces two genetically identical daughter cells
- B. It occurs in all somatic, or body, cells
- C. It results in daughter cells with half the parent cell's chromosome number
- D. It does not introduce any genetic variation
Answer
C. It results in daughter cells with half the parent cell's chromosome number
The passage explicitly states that meiosis yields "four daughter cells with only half the chromosome number of the parent cell."
Question 3
What can be inferred about the relationship between meiosis and genetic diversity?
- A. Meiosis reduces genetic diversity by creating identical gametes
- B. The crossing over process in meiosis contributes to genetic variation in offspring
- C. Meiosis is unrelated to genetic diversity in organisms
- D. Genetic diversity results only from mutations, not from cell division
Answer
B. The crossing over process in meiosis contributes to genetic variation in offspring
The passage explains that crossing over during meiosis allows chromosomes to exchange genetic material, introducing variation. This implies that offspring produced from such gametes will be genetically diverse.
Question 4
In the passage, the word "somatic" most nearly means
- A. reproductive
- B. specialized for meiosis
- C. relating to the body (non-reproductive)
- D. cancerous or abnormal
Answer
C. relating to the body (non-reproductive)
The passage defines somatic in parentheses as "body" cells, directly contrasting them with reproductive cells. Context makes clear that somatic cells are the non-reproductive body cells that undergo mitosis.
Question 5
Why does the author describe the regulation of cell division in the fourth paragraph?
- A. To explain why mitosis is more important than meiosis
- B. To show that regulatory failures can have severe health consequences, linking cell biology to disease
- C. To argue that current cancer treatments are ineffective
- D. To define the role of chromosomes in DNA replication
Answer
B. To show that regulatory failures can have severe health consequences, linking cell biology to disease
The paragraph connects the regulatory mechanism of cyclins and CDKs to cancer when it fails, emphasizing the practical health implications and motivating research—demonstrating why cell division control matters beyond pure biology.

What is in the pack, and what the 2026 Writing section actually is
The pack is built from the live question bank rather than written for the download. That matters for a practical reason rather than a moral one: a brochure with three invented sample questions tells you nothing about whether the material behind it is any good. The row ids used to build the file are published beside it, so the provenance is checkable against the bank instead of asserted here.
What ETS states
The current Writing section lists 12 items: 10 Build a Sentence items, one Write an Email task, and one Academic Discussion task.
The 2026 Reading and Listening sections use multistage adaptive designs; Speaking and Writing are linear.
That is why the Writing section reproduces exactly as a printed form and Reading does not — what the pack carries from Reading is one approved passage set, not an adaptive run.
The 2026 specification is subject to minor revisions until the official launch.
The file carries the date the specification was read. When the specification moves, the pack is re-rendered rather than patched in prose.
Sourced from the ETS 2026 test specifications, read 2026-07-27. Everything outside this box is Reach120’s own reading of it.
How to use it without fooling yourself
- 1Do the Build a Sentence items first, in one sitting, without looking at the key. They are the only writing task on the 2026 test with a single accepted arrangement, so they are the only part you can mark objectively.
- 2Write the email and the discussion post to time, then put them away. Marking your own writing straight after writing it measures your memory of what you meant, not what you wrote.
- 3Come back to them and mark against the rubric printed in the pack. Score each criterion separately; a single overall impression is the thing rubrics exist to replace.
- 4Do the Reading set last and check the explanations, not just the letters. A right answer for the wrong reason is a wrong answer that has not happened yet.
The step self-marking cannot do is tell you what a reader who does not already know your intention would take from the response. That is what the scored version of the same tasks is for, and it runs on this site without a card.
What a score on this pack does and does not mean
What ETS states
Since January 21, 2026, official ETS score reports use 1–6 bands in half-point increments.
ETS states the transition period during which the older 0–120 total is also reported ends in January 2028.
Sourced from the ETS 2026 test specifications, read 2026-07-27. Everything outside this box is Reach120’s own reading of it.
Nothing you mark yourself here is an official score, and nothing Reach120 produces is one either. Where this site prints a band beside a sample response, it is labelled a Reach120 estimate — an estimate of where a response sits, produced by our scoring, not by ETS.
Common questions
- Do I have to give an email address to get the PDF?
- No. The file downloads directly from this page with no account and no address. There is an option to have it emailed to you from the practice-tests post if that is more convenient, but it is a delivery choice, not a gate.
- Are these real TOEFL questions?
- Every question in these files is a Reach120 practice item taken from the bank our learners practise against. None of them is a real TOEFL test question, and nothing here is published, licensed, endorsed or reviewed by ETS.
- Why is there no Listening or Speaking section in the pack?
- Both need audio. A printed pack that dropped the recordings and still called itself a full practice test would be misleading about its own coverage, so the pack says what it omits and the two audio sections run free in the app instead.
- Is the PDF the same as this page?
- Yes — the same questions and the same answer key, generated from the same bank rows. The page exists because a file is awkward to read on a phone and impossible to link to a specific question in; the file exists because people print these.
- How current is it?
- The pack is re-rendered whenever the bank behind it changes, and the file carries the date it was generated. A pack that is older than the material it claims to sample is a claim about content that no longer exists, so the date is on the artifact rather than only in a changelog.
