However, we cannot ignore Student 2’s concern about heavy regulations causing job losses and hurting the economy. The best solution is to combine strict limits with financial rewards. For example, governments can set a strict cap on factory emissions but offer huge tax cuts to companies that actively invest in solar panels or wind energy. This approach protects the job market while forcing corporations to clean up their operations. Relying on voluntary corporate responsibility has failed for decades, so clear and enforceable laws are the only real way forward.

Climate change is an urgent issue that demands a strict response from governments. While both students raise valid points, I firmly believe that mandatory regulations are necessary because the primary objective of businesses is to optimize financial outcomes rather than protect the planet. I understand Student 2’s point of view that extreme standards can stifle economic growth, but voluntary actions have simply proven insufficient. Furthermore, government regulations should specifically target heavily industrialized urban areas that suffer from critical air quality.
