TOEFL Reading band scale: every 1–6 band and the previous 0–30 score it replaced

Written by the Reach120 research teamReviewed
Every Reading band ETS reports on the 1–6 scale, with the previous 0–30 Reading score range ETS pairs it with and the CEFR level it aligns to. A Reading band of 6 covers what used to be 29–30 out of 30; a band of 1 covers 0–1.

How these figures were arrived at

Transcribed row for row from ETS — TOEFL iBT score scale update (for institutions), table "TOEFL Score Comparison for Tests Taken Before January 21, 2026", and the CEFR alignment table on the same page. Nothing is interpolated: where ETS publishes a single 0–30 value rather than a range, one number is shown. These ranges are a comparison with the retired 0–30 scale, not a conversion anyone can run in reverse to recover an exact previous score — ETS published the mapping in this direction only.
